I'd love it too if it weren't for the 10-minute delay between hitting the brake pedal and the onset of deceleration. Okay, maybe I exaggerate a little. ;^)
She bought it in spring of 2012 and has put gas in it 4 times since then. She didn't keep track of the amount but I'd say she's used around 30 gallons of gas in 17 months! Now here's the "rest of the story": almost all her driving, including work, is within a 10-mile radius of our house. So pretty much a perfect setup for an EV. But she has made a few long trips, and thanks to the gas engine it's not an issue.
Because everything in our house is electric, it's been hard to judge the impact of the car on our electric bill. But she did the math once and decided that running the car on electricity is equivalent to using gas at a cost of about $1.50 a gallon. We signed up for dual-rate (peak/off-peak) electric metering and the car can be programmed to only charge at certain times, so it always charges when the electric rate is low.
Other than my issue with the brakes, I think it's a pretty nice car. It's reasonably spacious, has pretty comfortable seats, rides well, and handles surprisingly well (the batteries give it a low center of gravity). Acceleration is very good around town and adequate on the highway - if I had to guess I'd say it does 0-60 in maybe 9 seconds. "Systems" like climate control, stereo, and so on all work well.
So far nothing on it has broken, but it's only got maybe 7000 miles on it.
