It'll require some major infrastructure improvements Posted by RS [Email] (#15) [Profile/Gallery] (more from RS) on Fri, 27 Sep 2013 10:57:12 In Reply to: Cool stuff. 5-10 years to commercialization..., Noel, Thu, 26 Sep 2013 14:23:18 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
to accommodate large numbers of cars charging for short times at high rates.
I can see a need for 2-way communication between cars and the power companies to stage charging times so the grid and generators aren't overloaded.
That what-can-possibly-go-wrong voice in my mind says that the ultracapacitor manufacturer's will have to develop some serious structural hardening for the units. I wouldn't want to be in a serious collision that would rupture the container and lead to a massive instantaneous discharge. With a 200 mile charge for a SAAB-sized car, "Flash in the pan" would be an understatement :-)
With those caveats .... I really like the idea as a means for powering an electric car.
