I expect my A4 Avant to last another good number of years. After that I would consider anything that reasonably fits my needs (need decent storage space and long trip capability - a small commuter car ain't getting it done for me). I really don't expect any of the alternatives to have a significant economic advantage over an efficient gas engine - I drive 12k miles per year or less. I'd pay some premium for an environmentqally superior solution, but I'd need to study the entire energy/pollution picture - batteries and the Grid ain't pollution free. So we'll see.
