I have a VW TDI jetta wagon, here in Nj fuel cost is less than premium but about 8% more than reg gas, I have a DSG auto, bought new after spending 500 bucks a month in fuel and about 500 bucks a month to keep my volvo wagon running after my saab was totaled. In the last two days I drove up and back to Toronto about 1000 miles, got 43 MPG in real world driving 75 + on the interstate, when I did this a month ago I got about 45 MPG so winter fuel is here and it effects your mileage, a stick will get you more but not much. I have about 70,000 miles on my car and it is about 2 years old and that is why I got a TDI bc I drive a ton, I love my 93 vert but outside of teh seats I would not want to do that drive in it vs the TDI, Diesels are great if you drive a ton, and so far no major issues with VW, but like here the boards save you a lot of money. If I go back to teh use car route I will buy 93 or 95 cheap drive for 100,000 miles and dispose of them, this is what I had done until my old saab got totaled.
