From Wikipedia: "As a result of its improved battery chemistry, the 2013 model year Volt increased its EPA's rated all-electric range to 38 miles (61 km) with an energy consumption of 35 kWh per 100 miles (788 kJ/km), down from 36 kWh (810 kJ/km) in the 2012 model. The total range with a full tank of gasoline and a fully charged battery will be 380 miles (611.6 km)." (Note: this did did not change for 2014)

With your $0.17 per kWh electric rate, driving 100 miles and therefore using 35 kWh will cost $5.95 in electric power. Assuming $4.00 per gallon (today's gas price here in Chicago) a Prius would need to get 67 mpg for the same $5.95 expenditure - but they are EPA rated at "only" 42 mpg. At my current lower electric rate of $0.08 per kWh, driving 100 miles will cost $2.80, so my cost-equivalent gas mileage is 143 mpg. When my variable electric rate for nighttime charging decreases, this will only get better.
