Most people only know how often they put gas in and what it cost. Not many really track mileage, or they just believe the car's computer--which may or may not be accurate. As long as the numbers they see on the dash are in line with what they expected they are happy. What's sad is that many Americans seem to think 25 or 26 mpg is great mileage.
Our 9-5 will get 28-30 highway with my right foot on the loud pedal, so that's at 75 or so. That's according to the trip computer which runs about .5 mpg high.
What's interesting is my Stage 1 9000. The computer reports 26.5-27 mpg with the cruise locked on 73. And it's right around 26 if I do the math. But if I start running 75 to 80 the mileage improves. It has done this consistently for years and when I do the math it's right, I get 27.5 to 28 at higher speeds unless I hit a headwind or have a lot of hills.
