Push in on the top edge of the mirror glass so that it tilts all the way
up. Now look into the mirror body from the gap you created at the bottom.
There is an off-white piece of plastic visible right next to the back of
the mirror glass. This plastic has a number of grooves running across its
width (North-South). Insert a small screwdriver in one of these grooves
and push/pull (East-West) to one side or the other (I forget if it matters
which way so just try counter clockwise first). This will rotate the
plastic piece (which is a ring) and dislodge the mirror glass from the
motor inside the mirror body. The glass will have a wire with a connector
attaching it to the mirror body, this wire powers the mirror defroster,
disconnect.

Now you can take a multimeter and test to see if you are getting power to
the mirror when the defroster is on and/or test the continuity of the
defroster element on the mirror glass.

Installation is the reverse of removal.
