Suspension & Tyres & Rims

This query is in relation to a 1985 900 Turbo Auto that is being brought
back to life (slowly but surely, as time and $$s allow).

It appears that the suspension is shot, by that meaning I have excessive
body roll, poor stability over bumps, and seemingly increased stopping
distances. I have never changed either the shocks or springs on this car, so
they are probably due for a change. The car has travelled 200k-kms.

There seem a couple of aftermarket suspension products available for the car
here in Melbourne, Australia. The first is and Eibach Pro Kit, part number
7804.140, available for about USD300. This is a set of springs only, which
they claim will lower the car approximately 35mm. Theres also the option of
getting a set of springs made by King Springs (http://www.kingsprings.com)

for about 80% of the cost of the Eibach kit, but naturally that comes with
no guarantee of performance, though everyone who uses the King Springs
product so far seems satisfied.

As far as shocks go, the items that are available here are the Konis, part
numbers 30 1088 for the front and 26 1087 for the back. This will set me
back about USD360 for a complete set. I am not sure if these are the Koni
sport or Koni sprcial items. Can anyone offer some help in tihs respect ?
Are the Koni product worth the money ? I don't mind the fact that they may
be harder and hence a little more uncomfortable, as long as there are gains
in traction. It also seems prudent to change the suspension bushes at the
same time. Is this necessary ?

Also, the car is currently running on the original 15' 5.5J rims that came
with the car, 195/60 tyres. The design is a little dated, and I wouldn't
mind replacing the set of rims, but don't want to go for anytihng drastic
like 17' wheels which will rake up both my yearly costs and insurance
premium. What are the PCD(sp?), offset and other rim specifications for this
car ? Are there any rims from other cars that I can find from a junk
yard/wreckers that will fit ? Ideally I'm thinking of going to 16' wheels
and running 55 series rubber. Tyres of this size seem within my price
bracket, and snow doesnt happen so that isn't an issue. Any advice in this
respect ? I've tried 205/65, but this was way too fat, and 185/65 wasn't any
good though there were fuel savings. 195/65 soaked up the bumps a little
better but there was too much sidewall flex for my liking.

I thank you all in advance for reading through my long post, and await your
replies eagerly,
LG
