I've never found the need to change the pressure recommendation on the
9000, except I boost the pressure 3 or 4 psi for more lively handling,
better fuel economy, more even tire wear, and a margin of safety. But on a
1980 900, or was it a 99, I had a set of snow tires that were 'stability
challenged'. It was a 6 or 8 psi boost to the rear tires that kept the car
tracking comfortably, and that car already had a 2 psi higher recommended
rear inflation pressure. I think it will be quite noticeable in every day
driving. A 10 psi pressure differential, front to rear, was about the
recommended differential on the Corvairs, - 20 in front, 30 in back, I
think, and those cars would become quite nasty when, out of ignorance,
someone would pump them up to be equal all around. 10 psi is a pretty big
difference.
I'm not saying 'don't do it'. I'm saying 'do it in stages, and evaluate
each stage at both high and low speeds'
