Insurance Settlements

This is certainly the strangest end to one of my cars. While my daughter
was spending the night with some friends in Los Angeles, our 1986 Saab 900S
was torched. Suffice to say, it is a total loss. The right side of the
car collapsed inward, all of the windows were blown out and the hood was
blown open. Adding yet another curious wrinkle to this story, this occured
within the jurisdiction of the Rampart Division of the L.A. police!

Other than the shock I'm experiencing at the moment, I'd like to ask the
advice of anyone who can tell me just what we may have in store regarding
our insurance company. Does anyone have any idea just how little the cash
settlement offered may be? I've carried full coverage on all three of my
cars for some time. I had pondered only a couple of days ago that perhaps
it was time to scale back the coverage on this and my 1985 900T.

My daughter's mechanic just commented to her last week about the excellent
mechanical condition this car was in given its 187,000 miles. She had
taken it in to have R-12 refrigerant added to the AC system for around $100
or thereabouts.

Also, belated thanks to the list members who answered my question last fall
about apparent fuel starvation/catalyst problems. From what I later read
in my Haynes shop manual, the fuel pump gets a little tired as the miles
rack up. As long as she kept the gas tank more than one quarter full,
there was no further problem. That is, until the car was torched!
