Hakka 1s

I've read various postings over the years about the best snow tires. The
Nokian tires have always been mentioned as one of the best. I bought
a set of four Haaka 1s for my 1988 900T [studded, mounted and balanced
on steel wheels from Greer Enterprises (shameless plug)].

I finally had a chance to really check them out in some really snowy
conditions on a recent trip over the Cascade Mountains from Portland
to Bend (OR). I have to say I am *really* impressed. The car stuck
like glue on the fresh snow, as well as on the somewhat icy/slushy
stuff that's really hard to keep control in. They also handle quite
well on dry pavement.

Previously on the car I had a set of generic mud and snow tires (no
studs), and I must say there is no comparison in traction. The Hakkas
are not just a little better, they are noticably *much* better.

FYI, for those of you out west, Les Schwab Tire Centers carry the
Hakka 1 as the HK-1 at sometimes better prices than you can get
mail order. [In my case, since I wanted wheels too, it ended up
a little cheaper to ge them from Greer's.]
