Noisy Gearbox

I have recently bought a 1995 900S 2.3 manual.  It has done 154,000kms.  It
has been well cared for etc... but needed a new clutch when I bought it.  My
Saab tech did this last week.  While he had the gearbox out, I asked him to
change the transmission fluid.  I asked him to call the local Redline rep.
and find out if Redline do an oil for the new generation 900 box.  I have
used the MTL fluid on a classic 900 with good results.

Anyway, he recommended MT fluid - different to MTL fluid.  After everything
was back together and I drove off, a nasty bearing noisy from gearbox area
was immediately evident.  It is not so much a whine as a high pitched
'nashing'?! I drove straight back and we put the car up on the hoist.
Turing the front wheels by hand there was a definite rattle from the
gearbox.  We dropped the REdline out and put normal engine oil in  - non
synthetic.  Turning the wheels by hand again, the rattle slowly disappeared.

Problem is, now the 'nashing' won't go away and I am very concerned that
what was a dead quiet no bearing/diff noise gearbox is now in trouble.

What do you think?  Has anyone used Redline in this gearbox? Which one?
Apparently, as my Saab tech later helpfully tells me, the Saab manual says
never use a synthetic fluid in this gearbox!
Could it perhaps be something to do with changing the clutch instead?
