Probably a combination of i) and ii).

Not really a pressure fit. Once the bearings are inside the driver cup,
there's nowhere for the races to go, so it's OK.

The presence of grease should be enough to keep the races from slipping off
the needles of their own accord.

Only if it looks like there's something wrong with them, or if you don't
have enough rollers to properly fill all three bearings.

The tripod bearing assembly can be removed from the end of the driveshaft
with the help of a cheap 3-jaw puller, and is sold separately. A circlip
may also be present, and if so, needs to be removed as well. See:
