Re: Redline MTL

Over two years a go I put Mobil One gear oil in the gear box of our 92
classic 900 5 speed. I did this because in the NY winter it became too
stiff to shift in the am and we were crunching gears. With Mobil one it
immediately started 'snicking' when shifted hot or cold. I drained it out
and put in 10-40 motor oil, but it still persisted. I then drained it out
again and put regular Castrol GTX 10-40 in again. Then a Fiat racer
suggested Redline MTL stating that any other synethic was too slick for the
synchros. No snicking and no problems in cold weather. I contacted MTL and
insisted this was the wrong gear lube for the car. I have stuck with it and
had no problems in over 40K miles. We also fixed a similar problem in a 97
gear box the same way.
