ACC Hissing

I have a 1996 900 SE Turbo and I've started noticing a hissing sound that 
comes from under the dash when the Automatic Climate Control (ACC) is in 
AUTO mode.  I've messed around with it enough to know that if I put it in 
'ECON' mode the hissing stops.  I've also noticed that the temperature 
control doesn't seem to be able to hold the inside climate at a steady 
temperature.  In the winter, the temperature in the car creeps up to very 
warm, even if the ACC is set to the lowest temperature (around 58 degrees 
F).  In the summer, you can't cool down the car.  It's almost like 
something is stuck and pulling all the air through the heater core. As the 
car warms up it gets warmer and warmer until it's pretty much unbearable.

What I'm wondering is if there is a pneumatic tube that has either come off 
or cracked, but I don't know if the ACC mechanism has pneumatics.  I 
thought maybe the hissing was air coming from a pneumatic tube that is 
trying to move a baffle.

Does anyone know if there are pneumatic tubes in the ACC systems of the '96 
900 SE Turbos?  Or even how to get to them?

I've got a Haynes Service and Repair Manual, but it doesn't cover the ACC 
very well at all.
