Turbo

I am really suffering with my turbo. I have a 1988 9000 CDE. My problems =
began in November. One day I was getting great boost, and seemingly over =
night I got a problem. The car would boost great at 3000, but as soon as =
you hit 4000, it would drop right back to base boost. This really =
annoyed me, but what is more confusing was that two days =
later(performing the same), the fault changed, now it would only boost =
two 2/3 no matter what revs I was doing. 4 Days after this happened the =
fault cleared, and boost returned to normal. I was chuffed. In January =
the turbo started to go wrong again, it was trying to boost but then =
jumping back to 2/3 again. On the Motorway, the boost rises to the red, =
but then jumps back to 2/3 of the orange.

The turbo, can give the power I have tested that. The APC valve is ok, =
The Vacuum pressure switch is ok(Cruise control) the Knock sensor has =
been changed, the manifold pressure switch has been checked. I think =
this only leaves the APC Computer itself.

The turbo is acting like it is hearing pinking all the time. But it is =
on the highest RON possible, and it never acted like this before.

So I have been thinking, This is always dangerous.

My car has two computers under the passengers seat, a DI computer and an =
APC computer, I am under the impression the when pinking is heard, the =
DI retards the timing by a couple of degrees, up to 6 I think, after =
this, if the pinking is still present, the cars APC reduces boost, to =
stop the pinking. I have moved the K pot in my APC and it seemed to =
improve the boost, but after that quick test I put it right back, don't =
worry, it is exactly where it started.

So my question to you,

What is wrong with my car.??.

Is my DI failing to retard my timing, and this is the reason for boost =
dropping all the time ?
Or is my APC computer acting up ?.

I have looked on my engine, and I can only find one Knock sensor, But =
there are two separate computers in my car, I have found the knock =
sensor wires in the APC connector plug, but I have not looked at the DI =
connector yet.

Don't both computers need to listed to the engine. Or is their a second =
knock sensor I have not Noticed?

Lastly, Does anyone have a circuit diagram to the APC computer, I am a =
qualified technician, and would attempt to check it, but I need the =
Circuit Diagram First, that thing is way to complicated to just start =
having a guess at, I'll be there for months.

Please copy a reply to me directly.

I hope some one can help, this problem is really getting me down, I have =
even changed the oil, to see if it helps, but ,it didn't. My engine is =
good, No clatter, new timing chain, a few months back(October), no weird =
noises that shouldn't be there, she is smooth and quite.

Please Help!!!!!???

Regards,

Anthony Graham Eckersall
