I have had the exhaust hit the chassis in other cars, so that seems like a
good guess. Who did the last exhaust work on your car? You may want to get
a second opinion.

Another couple thoughts: I'm not familiar with 9000s, so maybe this doesn't
apply, but maybe the transmission mounts have settled and should have been
replaced at the same time as the motor mounts. Do 9000s use fluid-filled
motor mounts? Maybe the replacement mounts they used were old enough that
the fluid leaked out (though I'm pretty sure they'd notice the mess that
would cause), or maybe the rubber just hardened from sitting on the shelf
for so many years. That seems like a long shot, though.
