Re: Tire Pressure for Better Handling Balance

Your reasoning is correct. If you pump up your tires more, you should get
less rollover onto the sidewall, but also less ultimate grip. Pump the back
tires up more for less grip. That said, I wouldn't want the back end of a
9k coming around on the street, under ANY circumstances.

I think that your cornering performance could be dramatically improved if
you switched to a higher performance tire (like at least an SP-Sport 5000)
in a smaller aspect ratio, like 205/55/15. I too messed around with
various brands in the 205/60/15 size on my '86 9kT for quite some time, but
nothing worked even half as well as switching to the 205/55/15 SP5000.

I don't know about your '86 9kT, but if all the suspension parts are still
stock, you should be in dire need of new struts, a-arm bushings and ball
joints in the front. I know I am.

As for maximum safe tire pressure, I believe there's a number on the
sidewall. I run my 205/55/15 to about 36psi all around.
