Security Alarm Woes

The security alarm on my '89 900 Convertible is finally, I think, giving
me an excuse to disconnect it once and for all.  It's displaying some
kind of error condition.  After the first chirp, when I should get one
more chirp indicating the thing is armed, instead the speaker begins to
chirp continuously at about a 1Hz rate.  Anyone know what kind of an
error condition this signifys?  Pressing the key fob or turning the
ignition switch on stops it, but the LED on the LH speaker grill
continues to blink at the 1Hz rate, even after the engine has started.
Needless to say this is quite annoying while driving at night, and I'm
going to pull the plug permanently on this thing if I can't figure it
out.  It probably has something to do with why my almost brand new
battery went dead after sitting for only a week as well.  However, after
I recharged it before I reconnected the negative terminal, I measured
the static drain current to be about 60mA which I thought was probably
OK given all the stuff that's left running (clock, ECU, alarm wireless
receiver, alarm control unit, radio. etc., etc.).   Any ideas?
