Re: Reverse Thunk & Heat Valve

The reverse thunk you hear is coming from your front brake calipers. The
groove that the yoke slides in is worn, allowing a bit of play. This only
manifests itself when the brakes are applied in reverse, then it only
occurs once, right? A common malady... no fear, it's simply an annoying
sound, nothing unsafe. I lived with mine until I had to replace the
calipers. Even getting new calipers may not fix it, as usually you will get
rebuilt calipers, which may have the same wear.

The switch by the ignition switch is indeed for your interior lights. I
have mine disconnected, as it's too easy to hit it unintentionally, and get
a drained battery!

As far as I know, you can replace that heater control valve through the
speaker grate. You keyed in upon a nice thing, that speaker grate! It will
give you access to the valve, as well as the back of your dash controls and
instrument cluster (to replace any blown bulbs.)

I had a mechanic replace my control valve, so I don't have any advice
regarding it. I will tell you it was an expensive dealer part, around $90
or so, and that was with my wholesale discount. That was 5 years ago, so it
may have changed in cost.

Good luck!
