My 9000cdt packed up in Safeways last week. The hydraulic pipe from clutch
reservoir had split so dumping fluid and of course resulting in no clutch
pressure. My mechanic ( a saab main dealer man) says this is a very common
failure on saabs of this age (10 years)

So no, you did not get bad luck just a bad quality control issue at saab. I
also own a 33 year old car (a Sunbeam) with a hydraulic clutch and that
line is the original 1966 one and shows no sign of degradation at all.
