Changing 9000 interior to Aero

I've noticed 9000 Aero interior advertised in classifieds
so maybe there are some people interested in an experience
of installing such. I've installed 1993 Black Aero interior
(no passanger air bag) into 1994 9000 CSE with originally
beige interior (and passanger air bag).

Items taken from the donor Aero:
A) Needed if there was no color change: seats and door panels
B) Additionally needed for color change: 2 door pillar covers,
1 trunk area cover/shelf, full carpeting, center console (between
front seats), 2 speaker covers in the front dash, fuses cover
if both cars have passanger air bag, carpet fasteners and plastic
covers of screws which are around dash (size of a small coin).

Time required: 2 or 3 weekends. Tools: basic tools plus air compressor
and spray gun. Your mileage may vary - use at your own risk :-)
Lether refinishing stuff (if needed) and special paint (see below)

Steps (for color change transfer)
1. Remove items A) and B) from the donor car, wash carpets using
your favorite carpet cleaner and hose-off carpet with plenty of water,
leave to dry. Treat and refinish leather as needed (I applied
Rejuv oil and new black dye from www.leatherique.com - make sure
to put dye in thin layers)

2. Remove items A) and B) from the target car

3. Now the fun part: if you think you can remove the lower parts
of the dash easily it ain't so - it requires removal of steering
wheel, all instruments, controls etc. So I went for the in-car re-paint
of dash. Remove only top of the dash and take it out for
easy out-the-car painting. Mask and prep all (in my case beige)remainig
surfaces to be painted. I also removed and painted the fuse
cover, including the carpeted part (as the donor car did not have it).
I sent a sample plastic color to be achieved to www.parasolinc.com
and they mixed me up Vinylcote vinyl paint - really cool stuff.
Remove the 'SRS' small label on the passenger air bag and paint
separately. Mask all gaps which would get the paint inside the
dash and into electrnics etc. Paint with the spray gun.

4. I've also put a walnut wood dash (from Joshua Tree - advertised
in R&T) and adjusted the non-adjustable steering wheel by a couple
of inches to fit my driving position (adjustment is easy once you
see how the column is build, with the black steering wheel column
cover removed anyway to simplify painting). If you plan to put
the wood dash you don't have to be careful about not over-spraying
the front dash. Don't try to install the factory wood dash -
aftermarket looks better and is easier to install IMHO.

5. Intstall all the items listed in A) and B) into the car.
It's amasing that no one can tell the difference between the
painted dash parts and the center console (also black) which came
from the donor car!
I really like the results - it is exactly the color combination
I like the most (dark green car with black Aero interior - apparently
was not available from the factory in this color combination).

I'm not affiliated with any of the vendors mentioned nor with the
seller of the Aero interior.

Overall perhaps it's not a trivial job, but it's fun (for people
who like this type of stuff :-) and the Aero interior is so
much superior (I wanted to buy an Aero in the first place, but
couldn't find a right one). Again - use at your own risk and
judgment as there are a number of opportunities to mess up in the
process

thanks

George
