Wow, what a day! 48 brave souls travelled to Dayton in 35 varieties of
Saab for the first Tri State Saab Club meeting of the new millenium, with
coolers of goodies in hand and sunburns to show for it! The oldest car
represented was Gary Truell's 72ish 96 (with my '74 Sonett III following a
close second) and the newest was an '01 Areo Wagon. No autocrossing was to
be had, despite the presence of enough cones to do a full-scale course, but
no one seemed dissapointed. Dan Orzano and mself drew heavily from names
deposited in the BFH for a startling array of Saab Goodies from the likes
of Saab Cars USA, Just Saab and Scott Patersen from TSN (thank you all very
much!); everyone present walked away with something nice and loads of new
friends!

This format - an informal, no-fees-required club of random gatherings -
seems to work well, at least at this stage of the game. No newsletter to
produce, no dues to track and collect, just a passing of the BFH to collect
handouts for expenses (which netted us a nice chunk of change to help pay
for the first postcard mailing, thanks to all who contributed!) Those who
wanted to saw the Air Force Museum at leisure, those who didn't sat under
the hot sun and talked Saab for hours. What a fantastic time, and I thank
everyone for showing up and making it such a success, especially Dan Orzano
for all his hard work and coordination with the Museum staff and gathering
prizes. Now, let's all discuss where we're going next time - personally, I
favor a drive of scenic Southern Indiana, say, sometime in late June? Any
voluneteers?

Oh yeah, almost forgot, here's a link to some fine digital stills Perry
Ellington shot, if you'd like to see some of the carnage for yourself:

Thanks! - Phil
