Ditto, except maroon and FEB-79.
The only consistent problem I had with it was bad cylinder heads. I went
through about 5 of them in the 7 yrs I owned it. Kept me broke fixing them. I
both had them welded and had new ones. The thing that broke my back was when
I had to have an entire engine rebuild when a piston ring broke. US$3K later,
I finally took advantage of a financing deal the Saab dealer had with a local
S&L to buy my '86.
I don'tknow if it was my driving style that ate through the cyclinder
heads, but I sure did find out where the boost overpressure cut-out was set
;-).
I later found out (too late) from my indy mechanic that:
1) Saab only brought a limited number of '78s into the country to homologate
them for racing, so that they were sort of an experimental car at that point.
2) THe cylinder heads were made ny Lucas in England; 'nuff said about that
;-)

Bob Sypek
'78 Maroon 99Turbo, sold, thankfully, at 149K for a..
'86 900S, 298K and long in the tooth.
