Synthetic Lubricants & Rear End Sag & Battery Drain & Turbo Lag

I've been a member of the AMC list for about 2 years - and now, I'm
joining the SAAB list.

Many moons ago (about 1985 or thereabouts) I went with my parents to buy
a new car - they bought a 1984 SAAB 900 Turbo (used - it was a dealer
'demo') with the executive leather upholstery, Clarion stereo, etc.

Just recently, my wife & I acquired this same car. My folks had dumped
a boatload of money into this car to try & fix some glitches it has
always had - it runs and drives excellently and except for some minor
body damage, it is in incredible shape (it had been garaged for most of
it's life).

I would probably frighten some of you to know what my dad did to replace
the alternator...

Some questions that come to mind:

1) Are there any issues with running synthetic lubricants? I'm trying
to convert all our vehicles to synthetics and would like to do the same
with the SAAB.

2) How does one correct the rear-end 'sag' on this car? It's constantly
scraping the one hard-rubber mudflap (the other is soft-rubber - the car
only came with the hard flap when they bought it and had to order the
other flap separately). Putting weight in the back seat or trunk makes
this problem worse. Do these cars use rear struts? Could coilover
shocks, air shocks, or some equivalent be used?

3) Above, I mentioned my folks having spent a lot of money on a glitch -
the problem is that when the car sits undriven for a few days, it drains
the battery. All the wiring and related components have already been
checked and double-checked but the problem cannot be found. Anybody
have any ideas?

4) Being one of the older Turbo 900 models (prior to 16-valve or
32-valve engines) it's a little doggish on takeoff from a stop - are
there any performance modifications that can be made to make this little
jewel any more peppy?

Thanks!
