<< Do you know if this crank sensor could contribute to the engine stalling
or stumbling as well? >>

I suppose it could...the signal is used in timing the spark and fuel
injection and in idle control. My car (98 900), however, never misfired,
stalled, or stumbled...once it started. The check engine light never came
on either and the dealer didn't find any fault codes. According to the
Trionic Engine Management Manual section (#356733) the check-eng light will
light for faults in the manifold absolute pressure sensor, air and coolant
sensors, throttle position sensor, oxygen sensor, EVAP purge valve,
'adaptation' (drivability problems), and ECM. It apparently won't light
for problems with crankshaft position sensor, or with the direct ignition
cassette...unless, I suppose, such a problem might affect the ability to
achieve the proper fuel/air mixture. So....good luck at the dealer! Mine
has continued to start fine since replacing the position sensor. The key to
it's failure was aparently seeing a change in the voltage output when it
should have been steady.
