Tires & Synthetic Oil

The tires on my Saab (put on by previous owner) are Ziex tires and the
threads are 70, 80 percent gone, so I'll be shopping for new tires soon.
What to look for? I'd never heard of Ziex but I've seen some favorable
comments about the brand on the Internet. I'm kinda hoping a new set of
tires will help tame the slight pull to the right my Saab exhibits during
normal cruising speeds. (I've had a wheel alignment done but that didn't
help.) Anyway, any tire recommendations?

Also, someone in-the-know recommended that I use synthetic motor oil,
claimed that it really helps lengthen the engine's life. He couldn't tell
me, however, if it was in any way detrimental to the car's performance if NO
synthetic oil has been used in its engine before. In other words, should you
only use it if you've used in from day one, or can you switch to synthetic
oil even after tens of thousands of miles?
