Leaky Heater Matrix

Leaking heater cores are only going to get worse. Any attempt at plugging
leaks with sealants may buy a little time if the leak is small but if you
are running a hot motor your best bet is to bite the bullet & fix the
problem. It is a fiddly but doable job by the home mechanic, requiring the
false bulkhead to be removed at the rear of the engine compartment,
disconnecting hoses & although most instructions tell you to remove the
wiper mechanism, that is not really necessary. I found it useful to get
some self adhesive foam tape, the kind that is used to seal camper tops
onto trucks, as a replacement for the old foam which is hard to remove &
probably wont seal around the core properly, allowing some air to bypass
it. I think there are some good instructions in the network archives.
