I am not sure about the design of Saab auto transmissions, but there is a
way in some designs that trans fluid can get into the engine. If a vacuum
valve is used actuate the transmission, a faulty valve can allow fluid to
be sucked into the engine manifold. I had this happen on another make of
car many years ago. It left a trail of gray-blue smoke behind the car and
used up the transmission fluid very quickly. I was 30 miles from a dealer
when I first noticed it, stopped at a gas station to fill up the trans
fluid, and by the time I got to the dealer, there was no measurable fluid
left in the trans. again.
