the speedometer/odometer assembly can be removed from the car. More or less
dash disassembly is required to get it out. A working junkyard unit can be
swapped in, or the broken one can be repaired - either by self or by sending
it to a odometer repair place. Look around the TSN web site for rebuilder
sources.

The best source of this type of technical info is the SAAB official
(factory) service manual set.

It's comprehensive, and alas rather expensive as a set. However, individual
sections can be purchased from your favorite SAAB dealer for about $20 each.

You need Section 4:1, Manual Gearbox M1994- (900)
part number 03 54 885

There is so much info in these great manuals that a good mechanic that has
never seen a SAAB before could dismantle the components covered, down to the
very last nut and bolt, and put them all back together again successfully.
