Head Gasket and Other Repairs

The other day, the head gasket on my '87 900s blew. Unfortunately this
happend about 100 miles away from the Saab shop that normally works on my
car, so a local engine shop is replacing it. I'm having them replace the
tensioner on the timing chain at the same time. I was thinking it might
make sense to have the chain itself replaced, but they claim that would
require pulling out the engine and cost about $1000 more. Is this
reasonable? Is there an advantage to replacing the chain while the head's
already off? The chain looks good, but the car's got 160k on it, and I
figure it couldn't hurt.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.
