My '87 900T idled very poorly when it was cold, then
ran OK once it was warm. I found a crack in one of
the vacuum lines that allowed air to enter the
intake after the mass air meter. My theory was that
when it was cold, the un-metered air caused the
engine to run lean until the oxygen sensor warmed up.
Once the oxygen sensor was functioning, it made up for
most of the problem caused by the leak. I replaced
the bad hose, and it ran good once again.

BTW:
I replaced my vacuum lines with the correct diameter
fuel lines at least 5 years ago. They seem to be
holding up much better than any vacuum lines I've
tried in the past. JFWIW
