I had a similar problem with my old 74 99LE. It turned out to be a bad fuel
pump. I also had an 85 900 that would die like that when it got hot, then
would go again once it cooled off. After several attempts, the dealer was
finally able to fix it after the car dies on the mechanic while taking a
test drive (now there's an impetus for you :) ). The car had done this
since new and it turned out to be a poorly installed grommet where the wire
went thru the trunk to the fuel pump.

Bottom line - check the fuel pump(s) and surrounding area.
