Climate control

I am a relatively long time classic 900 owner. Originally bought a 1984 900
and these days my wife and I both drive 1988 900 models, both still going
strong. However we have two kids and another on the way. So while the rest of
the world seems to hurry and get minivans and SUVs after having ONE child, we
have done fine with our 3-door 900's with two kids just fine thank you. But
with the third on the way, I thought we should at least get a 4 door <grin>.
So I recently bought a 1995 9000CS (and I have no intention of getting rid of
either 900!).

I bought it last month but haven't really driven it much as we still use our
900's for our daily drivers. But I have a question on the climnate contol
system maybe some of you 9000 owners can answer. With the 900 it is fairly
simple. AC is either on or it isn't. Another knob adjusts fan speed. And a
seperate knob turns the heat up or down. Great. But with the 9000, you don't
get a heater and AC, you get 'climate control' (wooooo). I am a little
confused of how the thing is going to act. For exaple, last night I took it
out for a drive (the whole car, not just the climate control). The climate
control was set for 70F and was on auto. I turned it to ECON which if I
understand it simply turns off the AC if it normally be called for to turn
on. But what about heat? The outside temp on the gauge showed about 64F.
Since the climate control was set to 70F, would it try to heat? Basically I
would like to just have air blowing, no heat, no AC. Do I need to turn the
setting down below what the outside temp is to ensure no heat, as well as
putting it in ECON mode to make sure the AC does not come on if I set it
lower?

So in other words, 70F works nice because on hot days the AC will bring the
temp down, but on cool days, I don't need any heating or cooling, just air
flow. Do I HAVE to reset the temp to keep the heater from coming on? Does the
9000 have a basic 'air flow' only mode without having to mess with the temp
setting and all that? i.e. can I just pick one button to tell the system,
just blow air and nothing else?

Love the car though!
Patrick
