Clicking Clutch

I have '89 9000T 5spd with 199,681 miles, and just this morning, I got a new
clutch (clutch disc, pressure plate, and slave cylinder) and transmission.  I
did not get the master cylinder replaced because my mechanic told me it
wasn't necessary.

Before I had the clutch and transmission replaced, there was a clicking or
'clocking' noise that frequently (all the time is more accurate)occured when
I released the clutch pedal. The noise, I think, comes from around the pedal
area.  When I had the clutch and transmission replaced today, there was no
clicking noise when I first picked up the car in the morning, but when I
drove the car later on in the afternoon, the clutch pedal would occassionally
make that same clicking noise it made before I took it in to the shop.

Is this clicking noise possibly related to the master cylinder?  How do I
know when I need to have the master cylinder replaced? What are the possible
signs indicating the need for a new master cylinder?  Any ideas on the cause
for that clicking noise that will not go away?
