Open the trunk. On the right side, all the way at the forward bulkhead,
there is a carpet flap. It may be stuck under the flooring, but it is
there.

Pull the flap, and you should find (by feel, mostly) a valve with
tubing. Turn the valve (whichever way it will go) until it stops. this
bypasses the pump hydraulics, letting the top go up & down by 'hand'.
It's not light, and the book recommends kneeling in the backseat...

Now, if the pump is humming, then you've got one of two problems - a
good motor & bad pump, or good motor & pump, but low or no hydraulic
fluid.

Pull up the back seat bottom, being careful of the alarm wire. The pump
is on the right side. Check for leaky fluid anyplace in there.
