Tires

Time to replace the tires on my 99 9-5 Wagon. They look like
they've got more life in them, but I've got sidewall damage on
two of them, and they're bleeding too much air for comfort.
So...in for a dime, in for a dollar...I figured I'd go in search
of a new set of 4 and maybe even see see the dual nirvana of
performance/handling gain and road noise reduction. I don't have
much of a clue about the ins and outs of tire selection. And
surfing the SAABNET message board has only produced more
confusion.

I have no philosphical problem sticking with another set of
Michelin MXV4's, but Merchant's is quoting a hogchoking $170 per
tire. We have Pirelli P6000's on our other car (Infiniti M30),
and my 'favored' shop prices a set of H-rated P6000's for a more
reasonable $126. Other tires mentioned in the SAABNET posts
and/or Tirerack.com include Continental ContiTouring CH95s,
Dunlop Sport A2s, SP Sport 5000, and SP Sport 9000, Goodyear
NCT5 and Goodyear Eagle RS-A. No one has mentioned the Pirelli's
in the SAABNET posts.

So what's the scoop? Does anyone have strong feelings either
way? If it matters, we use our 9-5 Wagon for the usual
family-related tasks. Don't really require high-performance
handling. Just peace of mind. Mid-Atlantic climate, so there is
occasional snow. Thanks for any advice!
