Hello All,
I recently posted a question concerning my cracked manifold pipe. =
How I wish that was my problem now! The other night I was coming home =
from work when I noticed large amounts of smoke coming from behind the =
car. After pulling off the road (not in the safest of places), I sense =
that oil was leaking onto the exhaust. I decided to drive further until =
I could investigate the problem in a better area. Well, much to my =
dismay, the engine developed an upper end screech and I lost the =
electrical and power steering. After having the car towed home, I =
discovered that the crankshaft pulley bolt backed out and the pulley was =
loose. As this was happening, the crank shaft oil seal let go and =
proceeded to drain 90% of the oil out of the engine. This was =
especially depressing since I had the seal replaced less than two years =
ago by a Saab dealer in Pittsburgh, PA. Anyway, my question is this, is =
it time for the junkyard or engine swap? The car has over 200,000 miles =
on it and since it ran with little or no oil, I don't think I could =
trust it for the 100 miles per day that I put on it if I just put in a =
new seal (by the way, it still starts, but leaks a lot of oil). I don't =
have the time to attempt an engine swap, but I was wondering what =
everyone thought about having an used motor put in by an independent =
mechanic. The car spent most of its life in Virginia, so the body is =
straight and rust free. If I should attempt a fix, does anybody have =
any suggestions for an independent Saab shop in the Pittsburgh area? =
Thanks in advance for your input.
Greg
