Transmission Reliability

thought I'd see everyone's opinion. In most of the Saabs I've owned over the
years, the transmission has needed to be replaced around 105K-130K miles.
I've had to replace manuals and automatics equally. It seems like the
transmissions from the Classic 900s are rather weak compared to the rest of
the car. Does that sound about right? I know that the Saab transmissions are
finicky and need some extra care, but it really makes me stop and think if
it's worth driving an older Saab knowing that the transmission, a very big
ticket item, is going to fail. 

What has everyone else found? Have others had similar issues with their
transmissions? How about the GM Saabs (94-Present)? How have the
transmissions been with them? What kind of miles do people get out of their
transmissions? 

My family has owned other makes (Honda, Chevy, Buick, Jeep, Ford, etc) well
over 130K miles and they've never had transmission problems. Come to think
of it, they didn't have many engine problems either. They've all taken much
worse care than I have with their cars, totally abusing them really. I don't
think it's luck with the shear number of vehicles in this sample. 

I would appreciate anyone's input on this subject, and I'm sure there are
other people who would like to know as well.
