I suppose you've heard by now that Saabs (at least the classic 900 like you
drive) don't have a timing belt! Thank goodness - I always hated changing
timing belts every 30,000 miles in my other cars.

You might check out the Townsend Imports web site technical article on
changing the head gasket. They give a nice description within that article
on how to pull the chain tensioner and check for timing chain stretch. At
approximately 150,000 miles, my 900S is very near the limit for stretch.
