A few seconds is quite a substantial amount of time. I remember the light
in the '84 I drove years ago would flicker if the rpm fell below 400 or so,
and would remain on for about one second after the car was started. This
came on very gradually over 100k miles (the car had 210k miles when I
wrecked it). I didn't feel compelled to do anyhing about it, but believe
that this was a sign of a hardening o-ring between the oil pickup tube and
the rear side of the timing cover.
