: I have a friend who has a BMW M3. He drove my 1999 9-3SE 5-door last night
: and said my transmission was loose. Although this may be a factory 'thing'
: to prevent transmission loudness, is this normal? Are there any particular
: transmission mounts I can get to hold the tranny more firmly in place? Just
: curious. Thanks.

What did your friend mean by ``loose''? I would imagine that the
transaxle/engine unit in your _front wheel drive_ Saab is going to move about
a bit more than the engine/transmission in his _rear wheel drive_ BMW. This
is natural since the transaxle in your car has a direct connection to both
the torque of the engine and the influence of the wheels. Also the
engine/transmission package is going to move in different direction on the
cars. On your Saab I would expect the gear shift lever to rock back and forth
with hard application of the gas or brakes. On the BMW I would expect the
transmission to rock from side to side. I know that the effect is enough so
that there is a shift linkage kit for the M3 to keep you from shifting into
3rd gear instead of 5th by accident. Most people don't see this problem on
the street but I've heard of it on the track.
