Gary,

One of the charming eccentritities of the CIS fuel system... The new fuel
lines are full of air, and the fuel system is metering it at the same volume
it would generally try to meter fuel - it can't tell the difference. It
makes no difference which line goes to which cylinder - they all get the
same amount of fuel. In order to get the lines/injectors full of fuel, I
suggest the following. Actually, your fire marshall doesn't recommend this
and therefore I don't either :) Try this outside whilst your trusty
assistant mans the fire extinguisher.

1) pull all 4 injectors from the intake manifold, leaving them connected to
the fuel lines (just pull out the two retaining plates and the injectors
slide right out - I usually use a little silicone spray when I put them back
in).
2) place the injectors, still connected to the fuel lines, in a drain pan or
a large coffee can so you can see them spray.
3) Pull off the big, black rubber boot over the airflow plate.
4) Pull out the fuel pump relay (I think in '79/80 it was still the large
silver one) and jump the terminals that run the pump. You should hear the
fuel pump and Lambda valve running.
5) Use needle-nose pliers (gently, please) to lift up the airflow plate as
high as it will go. Just grab onto the bolt head in the center of the
plate.
6) Fuel should flow at 'full throttle' up the lines and start spraying out
of the injectors in a nice, uniform pattern. Grip the fire extinguisher
firmly for this part of the operation. (PS - I've done this a hundred times
and never started a fire).
7) Once you have good solid fuel spray out of all the injectors, put
everything back together and she should start right up. If not, chances are
you have introduced a vacuum leak somewhere which is preventing the airflow
plate from lifting when you crank the engine. Also make sure the cold start
injector is firing when the engine is cold - you may have to chase the
wiring on that guy back through the thermo-time switch and the starter.

Hope this helps!
