When we had EZ-Pass on our '85 900T (before we moved from NY to CA), we
used to park the car on NYC streets. Therefore, I always pulled it off the
supervelcro when parking, and almost always forgot to put it back again
before tolling. This gave me ample opportunity to discover that location
was rarely an issue -- I could have it sitting in the dashboard well, or
the console, or even the glove compartment, and 80-90% of the time, it
would work.

I'd mount it as close to the bottom of the tint band as I could, to the
right of the mirror to preserve maximum visibility.
