Disabling 9-5 Upshift Light

There was some talk about this a while back, thought I would share my
experiences...

The previous discussion seemed to end with removing the actual light bulb
as the easiest (only?) way to disable the upshift light. Well that is what
I did last weekend and as far as I can tell it is a good solution. I was a
bit worried that the computer would sense the missing bulb and bug me about
that during the start-up check but this is not the case. For the benefit
of others, here are the steps I followed to remove the bulb:

1. Remove the headlight switch and disconnect it's single wiring harness
connector. It just pops out, pry on it carefully with something that will
not mar the plastic.
2. Remove the two screws now visible through the headlight switch opening.
3. Remove the computer display/control unit (the unit above the radio) and
disconnect it's single wiring harness connector. Again, it just pops out.
4. Remove the one screw now visible through this opening.
5. Remove the HVAC display/control unit the unit below the radio) and
disconnect it's single wiring harness connector. Again, it just pops out.
6. Remove the three screws now visible through this opening.
7. Remove the radio. There are special tools to do this, but I was able to
do it using four pieces of 12ga solid copper wire. The release mechanism
works like many other DIN radios, the special tools (or wires in my case)
are inserted into the four holes in the front of the radio. They will
click after inserted an inch or so, this means the latches are released.
Pull on the radio and it will slide out of it's housing.
8. Leave the radio housing attached to the dash panel. Disconnect the
large block connector and the antenna connector from the back of the
housing.
9. Gently pull the dash panel loose. There are several snap-in connections
on the top and around the instrument cluster, they will release with a
light pull. If it takes more than a light pull then check all of the
openings for screws that may still be in place.
10. Remove the hazard switch and it's single wiring harness connector.
11. Remove the dash panel.
12. Remove the four screws that hold the steering column boot in place, no
need to remove the boot but it will have to be loose for the next step.
13. Remove the four screws holding the instrument cluster in place. Pull
out the instrument cluster and remove it's two wiring harness connectors.
14. Lay the instrument cluster face down. Remove the several small screws
visible from the back. Disconnect the three sets of ribbon wires and pull
off the rearmost cover.
15. Finally, locate the bulb socket labeled 'shift up', remove it, and
remove the bulb.

Reverse the above steps for re-assembly. You will have to reset the clock,
date, radio presets, etc. since these loose their memory when disconnected
from the wiring harness.
