In regards to the battery drain on your 1984 Turbo, there is a rather nifty
way to check for parasitic battery drain if you don't mind getting your
hands a little dirty. Simply hook up an ammeter in series with the battery,
shut off all accessories (remember to shut all doors and turn off the radi,
etc), and measure amperage. If everything is truly off, drain should not
be more than 25 milliamps or so (nominally). Assuming your battery is
being drained at a higher rate, pull each fuse in turn, and read the
amperage. If one fuse being pulled results in the higher reading going to
a lower reading (like about 25 ma), you have found the circuit that is
draining the battery. Now, all you have to do if find out why. That is
not always simple, but at least you've narrowed the search very
significantly. Don't overlook a relay that has shorted to ground (!) as I
experienced on my '74). I'll be happy to advise you further, or perhaps
you will get further help from other SAABnet people. Stan the SAAB man in
Colorado and parasitic drain expert by experience. 3 previous SAABs, 1958
purchased NEW to a 1974 99LEH, all presumably now in SAAB heaven or in
nursing home. Presently - 1996 900S non-turbo (Hah) - runs well with
40,000 miles now on ODO.
