Could your exhaust be partially plugged, or or something broken inside so
that after it warms up it blocks the exhaust?

As far as crank sealing goes, I'm thinking the sealing was in the bearing
itself...put it's been a loooooong time since I've had oone apart. You mignt
try removing the spark plugs and then slowly turning the engine over by
hand....I'd think you could then feel if there's any crankcase compression
and possibly hear it 'pop' into the cylinder.

The engines are sensitive to any changes in the intake or exhaust path, so
if things are stock there (for the engine you have), that could affect how it
runs.
