Rear Steer

I've had the following handling problem for almost 20 years on an '80 900
T, an '88 9000T, a '91 9000T and currently my '95 900S (T of course!). It
is more pronounced in winter (I used hakka 10's and now Yokahama Guardex
600's), but does also exist to some extent in summer. The problem is hard
to describe, but goes something like this. On highways at speed (60+ mph)
and even more so in crosswinds, the rear end seems to have a mind of its
own, requiring constant steering corrections. In fact the best way to
describe this handling 'feature' is to describe the car as acting like
something of a pendulum ('Yaw is what my pilot brother-in-law calls it). In
lane change manuevers, it feels like a 1-2 s lag before the rears follow
the fronts and the car almost 'crabs' as if the rears want to overtake the
fronts or in Saab parlance, 'follow your own road'. It doesn't seem to be
tire type (I've used 10 different types in 20 years), car type (900 or
9000), steering type etc. My wife's '97 900 S does it too, so it ain't the
'T' either. It does get worse with load (e.g. coming home from Minnesota
last night with lots of x'mas presents in the hatch). None of the cars have
ever been hit, and the '95 just had its 40k (km) service in which they
should have checked the alignment (they did rotate and balance the wheels).

I've driven Saab's exclusively for 20 years so I didn't have alot for
comparison. I drove a '00 Lincon town car while at the in-laws over the
past few days and the car handled like a dream with a full trunk. Never
mind the seating position was horrible, the Traction control system sucked
and when the snow hit, it was all over the place under power, but
all-in-all, no worse than my oscillating Saabs of 20 years.

Any suggestions ? Better bushings, lower the car, koni's ? Buy a 5 series ?

Happy New Year to all.
Ravi
