the first thing i would do is get on the phone to a SAAB rep and indicate in
perfectly clear terms that a pontiac sunbird is not an appropriate loaner
car for for one day (let alone two weeks) for someone who just spent $40,000
(or whatever it was) for a SAAB.

maybe i am assuming incorrectly that the dealer gave you this car in the
meantime, but in any event if you bought the 9-5 new at that dealer, they
need to be giving you an appropriate loaner at no cost.

do u think that if you had spent the same amount of $ on a lexus, you would
be driving a pontiac sunbird at a time like this? ...or even had you bought
an acura or even a *gag* german car? it's bad enough that a new car breaks
down to begin with, but such poor accomodations after the fact ? what
dealer/where is this place? if SAAB or a SAAB dealer thinks they can get
away with this in the current climate of ultimate levels of customer
service, they are doomed.

(i sold volvos from 1995- 1997 and we would never have thought of doing
anything less. we even went to customers homes/offices to pick their cars
up for scheduled maintenance and left a brand new loaner volvo for the
customer. if there was trouble with the set up somehow, i would even give
my 850 turbo to the customer and took another one of the lot in the
meantime.)

now, ;-) i am sorry i cant offer any real insight into your car's problem...
but it sounds like the old days when the air mass meter element would simply
break...the fuel injection system would take the engine into a less
efficiently-running mode and you could get where you were going, but without
good acceleration or fuel economy. maybe the functions of the element of
the air mass meter are incorporated into the work of a chip now, and the
chip went bad ??? hmmm

maybe the chip was protesting hearing so much non-coverage of elian gonzales
story too.
