'I have an 85 900T with a sunroof. The roof rattles almost constantly. =
=3D
If I push up on it, the rattles stop. Is there anything I can do to =3D
quiet it down? Are there cushions or seals that tend to shrink with =3D
age?'

I'm not sure if the sunroofs on the '85 Turbos were electric, nor if the =
electric ones shared the same mechanisms as the manual roofs, but I've =
had my manual slide roof on my '84 apart many times to cure rattles.

Three screws on the front edge of the sunroof are all that secure the =
top of the sunroof (the painted, exterior panel) to the rest of it. =
Remove them, slide the roof partially closed (about 2'-3' open), then =
pull up on the front edge of the exterior panel (be sure not to pull up =
too much, or you risk pinching the panel against the opening in the =
roof) while sliding the panel to the front to release the clips that =
hold the back of the panel secure. Once the top panel is off, you can =
see all of the mechanical pieces of this wondrous bit of engineering. =
(I love the manual sunroofs! So simple, No noise)

Usually, the rattles seem to be caused by loose nuts on the two =
spring-loaded projections that lock the roof into the toothed-track on =
which it slides. As I recall, you can't really break anything in there, =
and once you see how it works, you can pinpoint the location of the =
looseness pretty quickly. When you do find the loose culprit, add some =
Lock-Tite to it and snug it up. =20

There is also a SAAB replacement kit for some of the plastic sliding =
surface pieces. As I recall, they are slightly thicker than the =
original pieces, filling up a space that would otherwise be prone to =
rattles. I don't have the part numbers handy, but at the time I replaced =
mine, I found the numbers in one of the service bulletins in an old =
issue of NINES. =20

While your looking at the roof, make sure the two white plastic ramps on =
either side of the toothed track are SECURED! By design, it's a =
friction fit, but as the plastic ages they tend to loosen their grip to =
the metal mounting brackets. If they break loose and slide back with =
the roof as you push to open it - - - -OUCH! The top panel will not =
lower into the roof like it's supposed to, but will instead scrape =
violently against the underside of the fixed portion of the roof as the =
sunroof tries to slide open!
